Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications or certifications are typically required for this role in Eswatini?

A National Diploma or Certificate in Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain, or Business Studies from a recognised Eswatini institution (e.g., Swaziland College of Technology or UNISWA) is commonly expected. Basic computer literacy (MS Office) and familiarity with transport management systems (TMS) are essential; some employers prefer candidates with SADC cross-border documentation training or experience handling SACU customs procedures.

What does a typical day look like for a Cross Border Operations & TMS Clerk in Eswatini?

You’ll process cross-border shipping documentation (e.g., SACU transit permits, CMR consignment notes), update TMS records, liaise with truckers and customs brokers at border posts like Goba or Ngwenya, and coordinate with local logistics teams. Daily tasks also include verifying cargo manifests, tracking shipment statuses, and resolving documentation discrepancies before goods clear customs.

How does the work culture and employer expectations differ in Eswatini compared to other countries?

Employers in Eswatini value punctuality, respect for hierarchy, and strong interpersonal communication — especially when coordinating across departments or with external stakeholders like border officials. Flexibility and problem-solving are highly regarded, as delays at borders (e.g., due to document checks or system outages) require quick, culturally appropriate follow-up without compromising compliance.

What career progression opportunities exist for someone starting in this role locally?

With 2–3 years’ experience and demonstrated competence in cross-border compliance, you may advance to roles such as Logistics Coordinator, Customs Compliance Officer, or TMS Supervisor within larger logistics firms or SACU-aligned enterprises. Some professionals pursue further certification through the Institute of Logistics and Transport Southern Africa (ILTA-SA) to support upward mobility into supply chain management positions.

What benefits can I realistically expect from employers offering this role in Eswatini?

Most formal-sector employers provide statutory benefits including 21 days’ annual leave, sick leave, and access to medical aid schemes — though coverage level varies by company size and sector. Pension contributions are typically made under the Eswatini National Provident Fund (ENPF), and some employers offer additional allowances for border-related travel or overtime during peak clearance periods.

How should I apply, and what do Eswatini employers specifically look for in candidates for this role?

Submit a tailored CV and cover letter via email or company portals, highlighting hands-on experience with SACU documentation, TMS platforms, and cross-border coordination. Employers prioritise candidates with proven reliability, attention to regulatory detail, local language fluency (siSwati and English), and references confirming integrity — especially given the responsibility for high-value cargo and customs compliance.
