Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications or certifications are required to become a Distribution Driver for a beverage company in Eswatini?

Applicants must hold a valid Eswatini Class B (or higher) driver’s licence with a clean traffic record. Basic literacy and numeracy are expected, and prior experience in FMCG distribution or vehicle maintenance is advantageous. Some employers may require proof of road safety training or a police clearance certificate.

What does a typical day look like for a Distribution Driver in Eswatini’s beverage sector?

Drivers load vehicles at the depot early morning, deliver stock to retailers across assigned routes (often covering rural and urban areas), and verify deliveries using paper-based or mobile log sheets. They also collect empty crates, report stock issues, and maintain daily vehicle checks as per Swazi Road Traffic Act requirements.

How does local work culture in Eswatini affect expectations for Distribution Drivers?

Punctuality, respect for hierarchy, and strong interpersonal skills when dealing with shop owners and community members are highly valued. Drivers are expected to uphold company standards while navigating local customs — for example, greeting elders respectfully in rural stops and adapting to seasonal road conditions during rainy months.

What career progression opportunities exist for Distribution Drivers in Eswatini’s beverage industry?

Experienced drivers may advance to roles such as Route Supervisor, Depot Assistant, or Fleet Coordinator, especially with demonstrated reliability and basic supervisory aptitude. Some pursue further training through institutions like the Swaziland College of Technology to transition into logistics or transport management positions.

What benefits are typically offered to Distribution Drivers by beverage companies in Eswatini?

Most formal employers provide statutory benefits including annual leave (21 days), sick leave, and contributions to the National Provident Fund (NPF). Medical aid is increasingly common but varies by employer; some offer group schemes, while others support access via the Eswatini Health Services Authority.

How should I apply for a Distribution Driver role, and what do employers in Eswatini prioritise during hiring?

Applications are usually submitted in person at depots or via email with a CV, certified ID copy, and driver’s licence. Employers prioritise proven driving history, familiarity with regional routes, honesty in background checks, and willingness to work flexible hours — especially during peak periods like holidays or harvest season.
