Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement annual extension-services and operational plans aligned with NAMBoard’s strategy.
- Lead farmer recruitment, development, training, demonstrations, field days and adoption of recommended technologies and good agricultural practices.
- Coordinate horticultural production plans and provide technical guidance aimed at improving farmer productivity, profitability and production volumes.
- Oversee implementation of farmer-support programmes, including access to inputs, technical resources and development interventions.
- Facilitate farmers’ access to formal markets and support the commercialisation of farmer enterprises.
- Identify farmer financing needs and facilitate access to financial institutions and development partners.
- Implement and maintain extension-related quality procedures and standard operating procedures, including GAP compliance and certification support.
- Maintain accurate farmer information, monitor programme performance and prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
- Build and manage partnerships with government, buyers, financial institutions and development organisations.
- Supervise, coach and evaluate Extension Officers and ensure the effective deployment of staff and resources.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture or Agricultural Extension. A master’s degree in the relevant field will be an added advantage
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in agribusiness development management.
- Sound knowledge of horticultural production, the agricultural and farming cycle, relevant legislation, strategic planning and project management.
- Strong leadership, people-management, decision-making, problem-solving, negotiation and stakeholder-engagement capabilities.
- Excellent report-writing, presentation, communication, financial-management and budgeting skills.
- Proficiency in computer applications, recordkeeping and data management.
- Willingness to travel for business purposes and work additional hours when necessary.
