About the Company
The National Agricultural Marketing Board (NAMBoard) is a statutory body established by the Government of Eswatini to regulate and facilitate the marketing of agricultural produce in the country. Headquartered in Manzini, it operates the Manzini Fresh Produce Market, one of the largest trading hubs for fruit and vegetables in Eswatini, serving both commercial farmers and smallholder growers. NAMBoard provides market infrastructure, price information, quality control, and advisory services aimed at linking local producers with buyers. It also supports agro-processing initiatives and works to reduce post-harvest losses across the value chain. Through these functions, the board plays a central role in strengthening food security and commercial agriculture within the Kingdom of Eswatini.

Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications and certifications are typically required for this HR Officer role in Eswatini?
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is usually required, with preference given to candidates holding CIPD or SHRM certification. Local employers like NAMBoard also value familiarity with Swaziland’s Labour Act and the National Pension Scheme (NPS) regulations.
What does a typical day look like for an HR Officer handling payroll and benefits at a parastatal like NAMBoard?
Daily tasks include processing monthly payroll using local systems such as SAGE Pastel or government-mandated platforms, reconciling statutory deductions (PAYE, NPS, NHLS), and responding to employee queries on leave balances or medical aid claims. You’ll also coordinate with finance and line managers to ensure timely and compliant benefit administration across rural and urban offices.
How does the work culture and employer expectations differ in Eswatini compared to other countries?
Respect for hierarchy, punctuality, and strong interpersonal communication—especially in siSwati and English—are highly valued in Eswatini’s public and parastatal sectors. Employers expect discretion with sensitive HR data and adaptability to both formal office settings and field-based stakeholder engagements, particularly in agricultural communities.
What career progression opportunities exist for an HR Officer in payroll and benefits within Eswatini’s public sector?
With experience and further study (e.g., postgraduate HR diploma or CIPD Level 5), officers may advance to Senior HR Officer, HR Manager, or specialist roles in Compensation & Benefits within parastatals or the Public Service Commission. Internal promotions often depend on performance appraisals and alignment with national HR capacity-building frameworks.
What benefits can I realistically expect in this role, such as leave, medical aid, and pension?
Employees at NAMBoard are typically enrolled in the National Pension Scheme (NPS) and the National Health Service (NHLS), with annual leave aligned to the Swaziland Employment Act (21 days minimum). Medical aid coverage is usually provided through NHLS or a supplementary scheme, and maternity/paternity leave follows statutory requirements under the Labour Act.
How do I apply, and what do employers in Eswatini specifically look for in HR Officer candidates?
Applications are usually submitted via email or physical submission to NAMBoard’s HR unit, accompanied by certified academic documents, a CV, and a cover letter referencing the vacancy number. Employers prioritise candidates with proven payroll accuracy, knowledge of local statutory compliance, and demonstrated experience supporting diverse staff—including extension officers and administrative personnel—in Eswatini’s agricultural context.
