Jhpiego provides technical support to Ministries of Health across the globe in areas including HIV/AIDS, maternal and newborn health, family planning, health workforce development, cervical cancer prevention, malaria, and IPC/WASH.

In Eswatini, Jhpiego is implementing the Reaching Impact Saturation and Epidemic Control (RISE) project. RISE is a multi-country project funded by the U.S. Government to save lives and improve health through integrated, evidence-based approaches to address urgent gaps in lifesaving services. RISE works across all levels of the health system to strengthen the HIV/TB epidemic response, to limit the spread of deadly disease outbreaks through Global Health Security (GHS) programming, and to reduce preventable morbidity and mortality through integrated maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH), nutrition, tuberculosis (TB), and malaria services. Since 2019, RISE has supported programs in more than 25 countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

The IT Officer will support the reliable, secure and efficient operation of Jhpiego Eswatini’s IT services during the assignment period. The role provides timely user support, maintains office infrastructure and IT assets and helps ensure compliance with Jhpiego and Global IT policies, standards and service-management processes. He/She will work closely with Global IT, local staff and approved vendors, document activities accurately, prioritize support needs effectivelynand promptly escalate complex, security-related, or high-impact issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and support Global IT policies, standards, initiatives, and technical guidance in the Eswatini office.
  • Maintain current IT documentation, including asset registers, network information, configurations, support records, licenses, warranties, and vendor contacts.
  • Coordinate routine maintenance, system updates, and preventive checks.
  • Follow approved incident, service request, change-management, and escalation procedures.
  • Provide periodic updates on support activities, key risks, incidents, asset status, and IT needs to the HR Manager and Global IT.
  • Advise on local IT requirements, risks, and procurement needs.
  • Provide professional first-line support for staff, consultants, and authorized users.
  • Diagnose and resolve common hardware, software, printing, connectivity, Microsoft 365, and access issues; escalate unresolved matters to Global IT.
  • Log, prioritize, track, and close support requests through the approved helpdesk process.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot laptops, desktops, mobile devices, printers, scanners, and other user equipment.
  • Support Microsoft 365 applications and tools, including Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
  • Ensure approved endpoint protection, software, operating-system updates, and security patches are maintained.
  • Support device enrolment and management through Microsoft Entra ID/Azure AD and other approved Global IT platforms.
  • Maintain essential IT accessories and peripherals for timely user support.
  • Provide basic staff orientation and guidance on IT tools, cybersecurity, and appropriate use of Jhpiego technology.
  • Monitor and support the LAN, Wi-Fi, internet, VPN, printers, and related office infrastructure.
  • Maintain network equipment, including switches, access points, routers, and firewalls, within approved procedures; escalate complex faults or configuration changes.
  • Perform routine diagnostics to identify connectivity, performance, and infrastructure risks.
  • Support approved server, storage, application, and virtualized systems in coordination with Global IT.
  • Maintain printers, multifunction devices, UPS units, generators, and other IT power-backup equipment.
  • Support planned upgrades, preventive maintenance, and replacement of infrastructure equipment.
  • Monitor approved backup processes for local servers, shared data, and designated systems; report failures promptly.
  • Maintain backup schedules, recovery procedures, test records, and corrective actions.
  • Support local disaster-recovery and business-continuity activities and periodic testing.
  • Support implementation of Jhpiego information-security controls and report suspected malware, suspicious activity, or security incidents through Global IT procedures.
  • Promote staff awareness of phishing, password security, data protection, and safe technology use.
  • Coordinate day-to-day engagement with internet service providers and local IT vendors, including fault reporting and follow-up.
  • Monitor internet performance and escalate service interruptions or recurring issues.
  • Support procurement of IT equipment, software, licenses, connectivity, and services in accordance with Jhpiego procedures and Global IT standards.
  • Prepare or obtain technical specifications, quotations, and vendor support information as required.
  • Ensure proposed IT purchases and solutions are reviewed with Global IT before commitment, where required.
  • Work closely with Global IT on escalations, projects, documentation, and implementation of technical improvements.
  • Participate in technical meetings and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Maintain relevant local user guides and technical reference materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Informatics, or a related field; equivalent relevant training and experience may be considered.
  • At least 5-6 years’ experience providing IT support in a multi-user office or project environment.
  • Experience supporting Windows devices, Microsoft 365, printers, mobile devices, user accounts, and common workplace technology.
  • Practical experience supporting office networks, including switches, Wi-Fi, internet connectivity, and basic firewall administration.
  • Working knowledge of server hardware, Windows Server, client-server applications, virtualization, backups, endpoint protection, patching, and hardware troubleshooting.
  • Experience using helpdesk/ticketing systems, asset-management tools, and technical documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting, customer-service, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and collaborate effectively with colleagues, vendors, and Global IT.
  • High integrity, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality, data protection, safeguarding, and organizational compliance.
  • Ability to safely move and set up IT equipment when required.
