Key Responsibilities
- Developing and implementing irrigation schedules aligned with crop water requirements, soil characteristics, and climatic conditions to align irrigation practices with crop growth stages and yield targets.
- Ensuring optimal utilization and maintenance of irrigation and drainage infrastructure and systems.
- Analysing irrigation and drainage performance data and recommend improvements for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Supporting water resource management initiatives and ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements.
- Identifying research needs and conducting research based on industry and scientific standards.
- Providing technical guidance and training to field staff on irrigation, drainage and soil health best practices.
- Contributing to budgets, forecasts and cost control of irrigation and drainage at RES.
- Managing all weather stations at RES and ensuring integrity of data reported.
- Soil classification and recommendations for farms to consider for development.
- Maintaining good relations with other organizations for the purpose of exchanging and gathering technical information, cooperating in joint projects to benefit the business
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Agronomy or Social Science
- Senior Certificate in Sugarcane Production
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in irrigation management for sugarcane production.
