Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications and certifications are typically required for a Lecturer in Event Management at Limkokwing University Eswatini?

Applicants usually need a minimum of a Master’s degree in Event Management, Hospitality, Tourism, or a closely related field; a Bachelor’s degree alone is rarely sufficient unless accompanied by substantial industry experience and professional certifications (e.g., CEM or CMP). Recognition of qualifications by the Swaziland Qualifications Authority (SQA) or equivalency assessment may be required for foreign degrees.

What does a typical day look like for a full-time Lecturer in the Associate Degree in Event Management programme?

Daily responsibilities include delivering lectures and practical workshops on event planning, budgeting, marketing, and risk management; facilitating student projects with local venues or community events in Eswatini; and assessing assignments aligned with national curriculum standards. Lecturers also participate in departmental meetings, academic advising, and occasional outreach to Mbabane- or Manzini-based event industry stakeholders.

How does the local work culture in Eswatini influence expectations for lecturers in higher education institutions?

Respect for seniority, punctuality, and strong interpersonal engagement with students and colleagues are highly valued, reflecting broader Swazi cultural norms. Lecturers are expected to demonstrate professionalism, adaptability to multilingual classroom settings (siSwati and English), and sensitivity to community-oriented learning approaches common in Eswatini’s education sector.

What realistic career progression paths exist for lecturers in this role within the Eswatini context?

With consistent performance and further academic qualifications (e.g., PhD), lecturers may progress to Senior Lecturer, Programme Coordinator, or Head of Department roles—often within Limkokwing or other accredited institutions like the University of Eswatini. Some transition into industry advisory roles, entrepreneurship support through SEB (Swaziland Enterprise Board), or curriculum development with the Ministry of Education and Training.

What benefits—such as leave, medical aid, and pension—are typically offered to full-time academic staff in Eswatini universities?

Full-time lecturers generally receive 30 days’ annual leave, sick leave per the Employment Act, and access to private medical aid schemes—though coverage level depends on institutional policy. Pension contributions are usually made to the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) or a private fund approved by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA), with both employer and employee contributions required.

How should I apply for this role, and what do employers in Eswatini specifically look for in candidates?

Applications must be submitted via Limkokwing University Eswatini’s official portal or email, including a CV, certified academic transcripts, SQA verification (if applicable), and a teaching philosophy statement. Employers prioritise candidates with verifiable event industry experience in Eswatini or Southern Africa, evidence of student-centred teaching, and familiarity with national skills frameworks like the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
