Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications do I need to become a Marketing Extension Officer at NAMBoard?

Typically, employers look for a diploma or degree in agricultural extension, agribusiness, marketing, or a related field from an institution such as Eswatini College of Technology or UNESWA. A valid driver's licence is often required since the role involves field visits. Experience working with farmers or in rural development is a strong advantage.

What are the day-to-day responsibilities of a Marketing Extension Officer?

The role usually involves training and advising farmers on production standards, post-harvest handling, and market requirements so their produce meets buyer expectations. You would also collect field data, link farmers to NAMBoard's marketing channels, and support contract growing schemes. Regular travel to farms and community meetings is a core part of the job.

What is the work culture like for this role in Eswatini?

Work culture emphasises respect for local structures, including chiefs (tikhulu) and inner councils, so engaging community leadership before holding farmer meetings is important. Expect a mix of office work and extensive field travel, sometimes on rough rural roads. Punctuality, professionalism, and strong communication in both siSwati and English are highly valued.

What career growth can I expect as a Marketing Extension Officer?

With experience, officers can progress to senior extension or supervisory roles, then into management positions such as Extension Coordinator or Marketing Manager within parastatals or NGOs. Additional qualifications, such as a postgraduate diploma in agribusiness or project management, improve promotion prospects. Skills gained are also transferable to organisations like the Ministry of Agriculture, MoA extension services, or agribusiness companies.

What benefits do employees in roles like this typically receive?

Public entities and established agribusinesses in Eswatini commonly offer paid annual leave, medical aid contributions, and pension fund membership. Some employers also provide transport allowances or vehicle use given the field-based nature of the work. Specific benefits vary by employer, so always review the offer letter carefully.

How do I apply, and what do employers in Eswatini look for?

Applications are usually submitted via email or hand-delivered with a cover letter, CV, certified copies of qualifications, and references, following the instructions in the advert. Employers value practical field experience, knowledge of local farming systems, and demonstrated ability to work with rural communities. Tailor your CV to highlight extension work, farmer training, and any experience with horticultural or export crops.
